 During the summer season, those arriving in Bergen are always strongly advised to first reserve accommodation, since the best hotels soon fill up at any time between May and September and available rooms are quite pricey. However, outside of this time, finding yourself available accommodation or lodging of some description is really not a problem.
If you need assistance finding hotels in Bergen, the tourist office (Reiselivslag) on the Vagsallmenningen will be able to help for a small booking charge. The tourist office can also check for rooms within private homes, and whilst this type of accommodation may be cheaper than hotels, don't expect breakfast.

Budget lodging in the city comes in the form of several hostels, with the most popular being the Bergen Vandrerhje YMCA on the Nedre Korskirkeallmenning, conveniently just a stone's throw from the fish market.
Further hostels are to be found on the Hakonsgaten, close to the university campus, and on Kong Oscars Gate, near to the railway station, offering a cheap, but basic standard of accommodation, with apartments, double rooms and dormitories.
 If money is an option, then rather than hostels and cheap hotels, consider one of the outlying camping sites, such as Lone Camping with its log cabins, which are some 20 km / 12 miles from Bergen and situated between Haukeland and Espeland. If that's just too far away for you, then a number of reasonably price hotels and guest houses are situated outside of the Bergen city centre itself.
Popular hotels within central Bergen include the Steens Hotell on the Parkveien, which comes highly recommended, as does the 19th-century Hotel Park Pension on the Harald Harfagresgate and the well-appointed Neptun Hotell on the Valkendorfgate. For accommodation that is a little more upmarket and elegant, check out the Radisson SAS Hotel Norge on the Ole Bulls Plass, and also the historical Grand Hotel Terminus, which stands directly opposite Bergen railway station on the Zander Kaaesgate.
